I am a private collector who began building my sports card collection when I was a kid. Back then, me and my best friend "Wally" (RIP) weren't "collectors"; we were just trying to get as many players as we could from our favorite baseball team; the New York Mets. We didn't care about grading, corners or centering; we were just kids trading, flipping and scaling to get as many of or favorite players from the Mets as we could.
Years later, my mother gave me my first complete baseball card set as a gift (1975 Topps complete set), which she gave me to try and make up for throwing a huge box of 1970 Topps baseball cards into the bath tub and turning the water on because I left the box in the family room. Little did we know how many rookie cards of future Hall of Famers were in that set...But I was hooked.
From that day forward, I became a sports card collector with a focus on collecting Topps® baseball cards complete sets and traded sets (factory sealed sets preferred). However, in the '90s, as happens to many of us, life got in the way and I was unable to dedicate much time to collecting so there are some large gaps in my collection. My silver lining to "The Great Recession" of 2008 is that I now have plenty of time to dedicate to one of my loves in life...Trying to complete my collection.
